Philip Deal, a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, is an internationally renowned classical and contemporary dancer. He is an award-winning choreographer and teacher, whose works have been commissioned by dance companies, schools, and professional dancers in the United States and abroad. At 10, Philip followed Jazz Master Frank Hatchett to NYC to train under him at the Broadway Dance Center while studying at Wiest-Barron school of TV. At 14, he received his training at the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington D.C. and toured with the Kirov Ballet of St. Petersburg Russia across America for three years performing as a soloist in The Nutcracker while spending his summer time at School of American Ballet and the American Ballet Theatre’s Young Dancer’s Program NYC. At the age of 16, Philip was the youngest full-ranking soloist in the history of the Komische Oper in Berlin, Germany. At 18, he was the youngest ever and only American ever to win a medal at the Concours International de Danse de Paris performing original choreography by Mia Michaels. In 2002, he taught ballet at STEPS on Broadway in New York City in its International Young Dancers Program. Philip has taught master classes and judged at regional and national dance competitions such as Dance Masters of America, Dance Educators of America and Aspire.
Yoga, Pilates, Parkour
Philip is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher and Continuing Education Provider for the Yoga Alliance and received his 200-hour certification through YogaFit Training Systems. He received his advanced, 500 hours, training under Master Adam Nguyen, a descendant of Quang Trung Nguyen Hue, the 18th century Vietnamese King and Yoga Master at the International Yoga Institute in Virginia Beach. He is a certified Aerial Yoga instructor (aerial hammock) with Atmosphere Fitness. Philip is a Level 2 certified Parkour instructor with USA Parkour a subdivision of the World Freerunning & Parkour Federation. He trained in the A.D.A.P.T. (Art du Deplacement and Parkour Teaching) assistant coach program hosted by Parkour Generations Americas, the only teacher training approved by the original Yamakasi - the founders of Parkour.
Acupressure and Aromatherapy
Philip began his study of Qigong and Chinese Traditional Medicine as an apprentice under his mentor Corinna Somma, Chinese Medicine Master and author of the book Shiatsu. He is a graduate of Dr Michael Reed Gach's acupressure mastery program. He is a Reiki Master in the lineage of Mikao Usui. Philip is a clinically certified aromatherapist and received his education through the New York Institute of Aromatic Studies. Philip is a certified auricular acupuncturist by the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA). The NADA protocol helps clients in need of relief from cravings and discomfort associated with addiction.
Philip was born and raised a Jehovah's Witness, third generation. As a baptised Witness he became a full time pioneer and ministerial servant. He was disfellowshiped from the organization for being gay which thrust him into his search for true spirituality. He attended Tidewater Community College in Norfolk Virginia to study the World's Religions and Philosophy. He very quickly decided to become more experiential in his quest and pursued studies in Buddhism, Taoism, and Yoga while attending the Unitarian Church of Norfolk. He found Wicca through the books of Scott Cunningham and initiated himself as a solitary practitioner of Witchcraft and Folk Magic. Philip is a student of 21 Divisions and serves the spirits that walk with him. Today Philip's spiritual practice primarily focuses on communicating with his ancestors, dream Yoga, and deepening his relationship with Nature.
Philip is busy designing and facilitating teacher trainings and workshops in Yoga, Magic, and the healing arts. He is blissfully making handmade herbal and aromatherapy products for his company Philip's Own Apothecary.
